Cold case in Amsterdam's red-light district

Client: Politie

Cold case in Amsterdam's red-light district, Holobox HEREweHOLO

In cooperation with the Dutch police we placed a Holobox in Amsterdam's red-light district, hoping to contribute to solving a cold case from 2009. The case concerns the murder of the 19-year-old Hungarian sex worker Bernadett 'Betty' Szabó, who was killed in her room on the Oudezijds Achterburgwal in 2009. Despite an extensive investigation the perpetrator was never found and the case remained unsolved.

In a final attempt to obtain new information after fifteen years, we created an animated hologram for the police, inspired by Betty. The hologram is a realistic, moving representation that asks passers-by for help and writes 'HELP' in the condensation on the window.

Beside the hologram, the windows of the building carry stickers with information about the murder and the victim. Inside, the last moving images of Betty and footage of the crime scene are shown, as well as a documentary about her life and the case. With this campaign we hope to draw attention to this cold case in a unique way, and hopefully find a perpetrator.
